NaBloPoMo 2015: Watching Concrete

Our house is in a townhome development that is still under construction. We bought a phase one unit and directly in front of us, they’ve been working on some of the last phase units. It’s been interesting to watch the progress as we’ve gone from flat dirt, to mounds, to the wiring. I’m enjoying watching them do the work and seeing how the houses are put together.

Today, they finally poured the concrete for the foundations. I woke up this morning to a giant concrete hose crane being set up and the dirt mounds getting dampened by a hose. I was excited because I have been waiting for concrete day. Around 11, I took the time to sit and watch them pour the foundations for ten homes. It was fascinating. There was a constant rotation of two big concrete trucks dumping concrete into the crane. And there were a swarm of guys shoveling, pushing, and smoothing the concrete.

They all took such care in making sure everything was perfect. As strange as it sounds, I sat mesmerized for close to an hour just watching them work.

About texancountess

I find myself in the calming roar of the sea, floating gently on the foam of the breaking waves. Blue. Green. Gray. The colors of the sea mark the boundaries of my soul. The tumbled glass finds its polish under the relentless pounding of the waves upon the shore. Thus am I. Rough transitioning to polish, refinement ever a process, finding my niche in the storms of life.
