Twenty-six: Tell Them

That person you know who smiles a lot, but has shadows in their eyes. The one who always makes a joke and always eats alone. The one who stops to ask how you’re doing while never taking a break themselves. Ask them.

That friend you haven’t seen for awhile. The family member that withdraws without explanation. The coworker who is overwhelmed with keeping their head above the water. Tell them.

Ask them if they are okay and then really listen to the answer. Ask them how they’re doing and want to know the truth. Ask them if they need help and help them get it.

Tell them that they matter. Tell them that you love them. Tell them that they can get through. Tell them that you will be there for them.

This week marks the beginning of the holiday season in the US. It also marks the beginning of the suicide season. People tend to really struggle this time of year.

Let them know that you care. Give them a hug. And tell them that you love them.

About texancountess

I find myself in the calming roar of the sea, floating gently on the foam of the breaking waves. Blue. Green. Gray. The colors of the sea mark the boundaries of my soul. The tumbled glass finds its polish under the relentless pounding of the waves upon the shore. Thus am I. Rough transitioning to polish, refinement ever a process, finding my niche in the storms of life.
