Orders! Orders! Orders!

I’ve been happily doing the orders dance all day long.

I remember when we naively thought we’d have them over a month ago. Then the government shutdown happened and we couldn’t even turn in our paperwork for them. Then the shutdown ended and I forgot how backlogged they’d be, not to mention how slow they are in general.

Now, we’ve never actually had our physical hard copy orders more than…2 weeks or so out from our report no later than date. And we’ve always made it, always been able to ship everything, always found flights. But it’s also always been a major stress. This time, knowing we would know months in advance, I’ve been so excited to get our orders. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that there were some hiccups along the way.

Today, finally the orders came. Today we were able to reserve our plane tickets, which is more important now than ever with two big dogs needing to fly with us. Today we were able to request our pack out date, in hopes of getting one somewhere close. Today, I get to experience a normal PCS, whatever that is and whatever it is worth. Today, I finally get to acknowledge, for real, that we get to leave this base.

Today was a very, very good day.

About texancountess

I find myself in the calming roar of the sea, floating gently on the foam of the breaking waves. Blue. Green. Gray. The colors of the sea mark the boundaries of my soul. The tumbled glass finds its polish under the relentless pounding of the waves upon the shore. Thus am I. Rough transitioning to polish, refinement ever a process, finding my niche in the storms of life.
